I am the camera engineer at Socal Rentals and I have been in the video industry for 42 years (since I was 17). I started as a camera operator and moved on to being a Tech and Engineer. I’ve worked on press junkets, professional sports, documentaries, game shows, sitcoms, the Red Carpet, and reality TV. All of it with its own unique needs and amazing opportunities.
Oddly enough, I grow a food garden in my front yard (I swear my wife made me do it). I thought the neighbors would hate it, but when I’m out there, someone always stops and stays a while to chat and exchange ideas. It’s been a good way to keep in touch with the neighborhood.
I have had to work with many types of equipment through the years, but most of my experience is with cameras, lenses, and projectors, all of which have changed a great deal over the years. When I started in the industry, we still used “tube” cameras, which moved on to CCDs and CMOS, and the glass in lenses has come such a long way in precision and clarity.
